Correct facial contouring. What you need to contour your face

MAS makeup artist Katerina Ponomareva explains to Olesya Farrell - and all interested round, square, triangular and other faces - how to sculpt a face and which face sculptor to use.
The key word in “correcting the oval of the face” is precisely “oval”: the very ideal shape that we strive for. The first step in sculpting: looking in the mirror, draw an imaginary oval on your face, and darken everything that goes beyond the oval. Like that:

Using this principle, Katya drew face charts for five face shapes: round, square, diamond-shaped and triangular (for a triangle with a base at the bottom and for an inverted one, with a wider top part). Places that should be darkened are clearly highlighted:

Step N 1. Base

1. Katya applied Studio Moisture Fix SPF 15 moisturizing cream and a base tone to her entire face: a light moisturizer of which there are a variety, Face & Body in shade C3.

2. I concealed dark circles under the eyes using the Studio Concealer and Correct Palette in the shade Medium, using a brush No. 224 to alternately apply lemon yellow and pink pigment.

3. Eyebrows. They must be emphasized and worked through even in the case of maximum natural makeup. (Even especially for him.) They hold the whole face. Katya uses shadows suitable color and beveled brush No. 208:

Step N 2. Highlighting

1. Katya selects areas that need to be visually “pushed” forward: forehead, upper cheekbones, bridge of the nose, upper eyelid, area upper lip and chin - and applies Prep+Prime Highlighter in Radiant Rose.

2. The cheeks under the cheekbones should also be lightened - they should not look sunken; besides, after this it will be easier to highlight the cheekbones with dark powder.

This is the area in the “hollow” - the place that needs to be highlighted:

3. The highlighter should be one or two shades lighter than the base shade. Specifically for mine foundation(C3) as a highlighter, in addition to Prep+Prime Highlighter in pencil, Katya used the lightest shade, shade NC 15, from the Studio Concealer and Correct Palette in the Light version.

4. It is better to first apply the highlighter - for greater precision - with a flat brush (here - No. 252), and duo-fiber (No. 130) is ideal for shading.

  • Highlighter - to create a “sculpting” of the face, highlighting and highlighting individual areas, hiding small wrinkles, obtaining a radiant, fresh look. The masking effect is achieved due to the small reflective particles included in the composition. Do not overdo it, otherwise your face may become very shiny and resemble a Christmas tree.
  • If you want to highlight your eyebrows, apply highlighter above and below the eyebrow; to highlight your eyes, apply it to the inner corner of the eye; if you want to give your lips more volume, highlighter should be applied to the area of the upper lip and under the contour of the lower lip; to give your face more sculpture, use it on the chin; if you have a small nose, apply highlighter to the wings of your nose, and if you have a wide nose, apply highlighter to the bridge of your nose; To make your cheekbones more defined, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks, and a small amount of highlighter to your cheekbones just above the blush.
  • Owners of fat and problem skin You should use highlighter carefully - if applied incorrectly, it can highlight imperfections and add unwanted shine.

Step N3. Blackout

1. When deciding which texture to choose for contouring - cream or powder - it is important to consider: cream correctors give a natural effect and are partially absorbed over time, which makes the makeup look even more natural. But due to their greater density, they are more difficult to shade and quite difficult to correct errors in application. Therefore, they should be chosen by those who have already more or less got their hands on contouring. Powders (and their relatives bronzers and contour blushes) are easier to use, easy to blend and just as easy to adjust.

Katya, how professional makeup artist, of course, uses both: first, a cream corrector for greater naturalness, and on top of it, powder, to consolidate and enhance the effect (in real life, you are unlikely to bother so much and buy cream and powder of the same tone) .

In my case, she used a dark shade from the “Medium” concealer palette, and on top of it, to enhance the effect, she used powder 3 shades darker than the skin tone (Studio Careblend/Pressed Powder in Dark).

2. The eyes also need sculpting. Katya used the same Studio Careblend/Pressed Powder in the shade Dark to highlight the crease of her eyelid and blend it upward with brush No. 217. The look immediately became deeper.

3. Cheekbones are the most important and responsible part of contouring. To determine the correct place where exactly to put a dark shade of powder or corrector, rest against the lower edge of the bone or with your finger, and draw a line in the direction from the tragus (cartilage at the base of the ear) to the corner of the lips - the angle is small, it is almost horizontal. Like that:

4. The line should end a couple of centimeters before the corners of the lips. To find the right point, you can put two fingers on the corner of your lips...

...or pull in the cheeks and make a “fish”: where the hollow on the cheek ends, the darkening line should also end.

5. Shading is everything to us. Creamy textures can be easily shaded using duo-fiber with an even cut (No. 130), while powdery textures can be blended with a fluffy brush (like No. 159).

Then no one will suspect your new cheekbones of being unnatural -)

6. We place the final accents. Since Katya determined my face shape to be an “inverted triangle,” she slightly darkened the temporal area to visually narrow the upper part, walked along the contour of the hair and the forehead mounds, and, finally, along the lower jaw and under it - to smooth out the oval in the lower third of the face .

7. It is necessary to shade the darkening on the lower jaw and under it in an upward direction - this is the only way to achieve a natural effect. Do not brush your chin from top to bottom.

8. Don’t forget to touch your neck a couple of times so that you don’t get a noticeable difference in color and “Professor Dowell’s head” -)

Voila!

  • Bronzer will help give your face a healthier, tanned look, correct its shape, disguise freckles, or even out the difference in shades when moving from the face to the neck. Required condition : Distribute it evenly on the cheekbones, cheeks, nose, chin and neck area.
  • Corrective blush – blush dark shades, intended for drawing contours. Do not confuse them with regular blush, which should be applied to the cheeks after smiling.
  • For sculpting, a highlighter and one shade of bronzer or dark powder (2-3 shades darker) are enough natural color skin).
  • Apply all products to your hand first: cream products warm up and become more flexible, while powder products are easier to dose by applying them to the brush.
  • It is easier to work on cheekbones with a brush with a beveled angle - like No. 168.

The most common mistakes

Most often, unsuccessful face sculpting consists precisely in violating two basic rules for drawing cheekbones.

Error No. 1. We forget to stop in time and bring the dark line almost to the very corners of the lips:

By the way, Katya said that in an attempt to make the face even more sculpted, girls often draw the line of their cheekbones, which should be almost horizontal with a slight slope, at a sharp angle of almost 45% - not to the corner of the lips, but almost to the chin. This technique is quite often used for models on the catwalk, but in ordinary life- and, especially in daylight - it looks too harsh and aggressive, so you shouldn’t do that.

Error No. 2. We don’t bother with shading either -)

I see this often (it happened, even in the mirror -))) - and you? -))

  • Makeup can successfully correct and change color, but not texture: bags under the eyes, uneven skin or, say, puffiness (after a flight or a fun night the night before) - this is already the work of other means. Don't try to disguise skin imperfections with highlighter, this will only draw attention to the problem.
  • Sometimes it is easier to correct the contour of the face with a hairstyle than decorative cosmetics(for example, bangs will visually shorten an elongated face, and correctly selected volume at the temples will balance a “heavy” jaw).
  • With the right shades and brushes, application will take no more than a couple of minutes. Even for express makeup, be sure to “walk” along the area of the subcheekbone cavity, where the natural - and, perhaps, the most important - shadows on the face are indicated when creating contours.

This makeup technique, when performed correctly, can work wonders. Most young women have mastered facial contouring a long time ago, and can skillfully use their own skills when applying spectacular makeup. This makes it possible for them to look impeccable in all situations, hiding existing shortcomings and advantageously emphasizing beautiful features.

What is facial contouring?

Facial contouring refers to its correction using cosmetics. It helps to veil problem areas skin, highlight the advantages of the face, correct its shape, give facial features expressiveness. With its support, it is quite possible to decorate quite serious imperfections, for example, facial asymmetry. If there are practically no skin problems, facial contouring can help give your appearance expressiveness, skillfully highlighting its advantages.

Thanks to contouring, it is quite possible to radically change your appearance. As a matter of priority, stylists advise those representatives of the fairer sex who have an extremely high forehead or full face to resort to this technique. Even girls with regular facial features resort to this procedure, for example, to veil dark circles under the eyes or highlight cheekbones.

Contouring (sculpting) will take much more time than applying daily makeup. As a result, it is more suitable for events when the face must look impeccable. For example, for a festive event, photo shoot, video shooting.

Step-by-step facial contouring

To perform this procedure, it is allowed to use both creamy and dry powder products. Nowadays there are countless palettes for face sculpting on sale. Stylists recommend that when purchasing them, focus on popular brands, for example, NYX, Bobbi Brown, MAC. The colors presented in the palette should match your skin tone.

In addition to palettes, it is quite possible to use foundation; it should be of several colors, as well as powder of various tones. It is believed that correction made using powdered cosmetics looks more natural. It is much easier to shade and is much better suited for daily make-up. Contouring using cream-based cosmetics is quite labor-intensive to perform and is more noticeable on the face, as a result of which it is recommended to be used for evening outings, for photography and video shooting.

Important! When selecting cosmetics for this procedure, you should pay attention Special attention to one that does not shine and has a matte texture.

How to contour your face yourself?

Step 1. The very first and mandatory point is to apply a base for makeup and not large quantity foundation or BB cream.

Step 2. Draw dark lines along the edges of the nose using a corrector. The drawn stripes must be smooth and neat. If you want to visually lengthen the nose, then you need to start drawing from the beginning of the eyebrows.

Step 3. Use the corrector to darken the part of the face that is exactly under the cheekbone, and lighten it itself. To determine which specific area needs to be made darker, you need to apply a brush from your earlobe to the corner of your lips and find the dimple.

Step 4. If the forehead is high, then the areas on its sides and the one located next to the beginning of the hair are darkened.

Step 5. The areas around the upper eyelids become slightly darker.

Step 6. Apply a light tone (highlighter) as follows:

  • between the dark lines drawn on the nose;
  • to the center of the frontal lobe;
  • in the corners of the eyes;
  • on the part of the cheekbone located above the previously drawn line;
  • on the area of skin above the upper lip;
  • on the edges of the lips.

Step 7 It is necessary to shade light and dark lines so that all transitions between them are smooth and insignificant. It is better to start this procedure from light areas. Don't forget about the lines of the chin, neck and ears.

Do not forget! If facial contouring was performed with dry cosmetics, then shading should be done during their application.

How to contour your face?

To start using this technique, you should determine the shape of your face. The sequence of your further actions depends on it. To do this, you need to pin up your hair and go to the mirror.

A face is considered round if:

  1. Its dimensions are approximately the same on all sides.
  2. The outline of the chin is smoothed.
  3. Cheekbones are considered the largest part of the face.
  4. The hair growth line is rounded.

A face is considered oval when:

  1. It is elongated.
  2. Its outline is similar to an inverted egg.
  3. The forehead is visually wider than the chin.
  4. The cheekbones are considered the most prominent part.

A square face has:

  1. Large jaw and square chin appearance.
  2. The forehead, cheekbones, and lower part of the face are approximately the same size.
  3. The starting line of the hair is straight.

Women more often consider themselves to have a rectangular face type, which they discovered in themselves:

  1. His elongation.
  2. Large jaw, square chin.
  3. The cheekbones, hairline and forehead are the same length.

Those who have noticed the following most often consider themselves to have a triangular face:

  1. Long face.
  2. The forehead is not wide, and the jaw is the widest part.

Once the shape is determined, you can begin sculpting, taking into account the advice of experts.

Contouring a round face

Face contouring round type is done by shading areas on the sides of the forehead and cheeks (to the angle of the lower jaw). The light tone is applied under the eyes, in the center of the frontal lobe and chin. The goal in the execution of the technique in this case is the extreme narrowing and sharpening of this form.

Contouring an oval face

There is no need to contour a round face; just apply blush. This type is taken as a standard when determining the basic methods. If contouring is required for a photo shoot, we recommend:

  1. Apply a light tone:
    - under the eyes, drawing a triangle;
    - on the main part of the nose, the bridge of the nose;
    - above the lips (in the center);
    - neat stripes from the edges of the lips to the lower jaw;
    - on the center of the chin;
  2. Apply corrector:
    - within the hairline and on the temporal areas;
    - on the cheekbones;
    - from the sides of the nose;
    - on the edges of the chin;
    - blend everything carefully;
  3. Cover your face with loose colorless powder.

Contouring a square face

Square face contouring is performed to correct wide cheekbones. You need to apply a little light tone in the center of the forehead, chin, under the eyes. The lateral areas of the skin on the forehead, temples, corners of the lower jaw and cheeks should be highlighted darker.

Contouring a rectangular face

Contouring a rectangular face will require applying highlighter only to the middle of the forehead and chin. The corrector is applied to the forehead and lower jaw; there is no need to apply it to the temples.

Triangular face contouring

Contouring a triangular face is done by lightening the skin below the eyes, the center of the chin and forehead. Darken the areas of the temples, the upper part of the cheeks, slightly touching the cheekbones, forehead (on the sides).

In the video below, the makeup artist will clearly show how to contour an oblong heart-shaped face, so you can turn on and repeat all the steps to be sure to do it correctly.

Rules for facial contouring

Before using this technique, it is recommended to carefully select a palette. It contains liquid-based correctors for dark and light tones. It is better to give preference to the one that consists of natural colors, without red and orange bright shades.

If your facial skin is expressionless, then it is advisable to choose cool tones. For brunettes with light tan skin, a palette with warm brown tones is more suitable. Young women with dark skin should pay special attention to dark brown ones with decorative elements.

Before starting the contouring procedure you need:

  1. Clean the surface of the face from contaminants with special cosmetics;
  2. If the skin is dry, then it is advisable to apply a moisturizer. To the owners oily skin you need to remove shine with lotion;
  3. Concealer should be used to hide skin defects: freckles, age spots;
  4. Apply foundation;
  5. Powder your face.

Besides, make-up artists have developed special rules, which can help representatives of the fairer sex avoid making mistakes when performing this procedure:

  1. There is no need to mix oily foundations with powdered powders. It will not be possible to blur the boundaries of their mixing so that they are invisible;
  2. In order to see the result of the makeup, you should take a photograph;
  3. The effect of “sweaty skin” under the nose can be removed by applying under the nasolabial triangle matte shade highlighter;
  4. There is no need to lighten the prominent parts of the face too much with pearlescent light tones. This can cause a reflective effect when the camera flash occurs, ruining the photo.

Do not forget! Cosmetics should be applied gradually. There is no need to focus on the makeup itself. Products applied to the skin during this procedure should highlight advantages and hide defects, but not demonstrate the number of cosmetics you have.

There can never be too many lessons, especially when they are given by a famous Russian stylist and makeup artist. You will get very easy and neat contouring just after watching this video.

What is contouring and who needs it?

Facial contouring (or sculpting, contouring) is facial correction using cosmetics in order to hide certain facial imperfections, highlight advantages, correct the shape of the face, or simply make the face more expressive. Contouring allows you to hide both large facial defects (for example, asymmetry), and simply make the face more attractive, emphasizing its advantages.

Contouring (sculpting) is suitable primarily for those girls who want to correct certain imperfections in their face: too wide a jaw, too high a forehead, a full or flat face. But for those girls who are completely satisfied with their face, you can resort to contouring to emphasize cheekbones, remove dark circles under the eyes, etc.

Contouring is not an element everyday makeup. It takes quite a lot of time and requires applying a large amount of cosmetics to the face, so it is recommended to do it in cases when you need flawless makeup: evening events, holidays and special occasions, and especially upcoming photo or video shooting.

How contouring works

In general terms, the principle of contouring is simple: using cosmetics on the face, some areas are darkened and others are highlighted. This artificial creation of shadows and light makes the face more voluminous, expressive and creates the desired shape. The areas of highlighting and darkening vary depending on the shape of the face and the desired correction.

The star of contouring among celebrities today is Kim Kardashian (and perhaps we owe much of the popularity of contouring to her). The correction of Kim's face is clearly visible even in the photo, especially when compared with photographs where the star is without makeup.

Well, if contouring sounds interesting to you and you're ready to give it a try, let's get started with the step-by-step instructions!

Cosmetic products needed for contouring:

For sculpting, you can use both dry (powdery) and creamy products. Dry products are considered easier to use. Today, many people have facial contouring palettes. cosmetic brands: Anastasia Beverly Hills, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Inglot, NYX, etc. You just need to choose the palette that suits your skin color. In addition to specialized contouring palettes, you can use foundation in several shades and powders in different tones.

Facial correction done with dry products looks less harsh, more natural and easier to blend, so dry contouring is better suited for everyday makeup. Facial correction with creamy (liquid) products is more difficult to perform and is more noticeable on the face, and therefore more suitable for photo and video shooting.

When choosing cosmetics for contouring, remember one main rule: they should be without shine (shimmer, glitter). Only matte textures are used in sculpting (with the exception of highlighters).

Contouring Brushes

In the process of facial correction, you can use those brushes that you use constantly (whether professional or non-professional brushes, synthetic or natural). There are no special requirements for contouring brushes, but for ease of applying makeup, you can purchase an angled blush brush and several flat brushes.

How to do contouring step by step:

Step 1. Apply makeup base (the one you usually use) and a thin layer of foundation or BB cream to your face. This is a mandatory face preparation before contouring begins.

Step 2. Draw the nose. Using the corrector, draw dark lines along the sides along the nose to the very tip. Please note that the line should be straight and not slant to the side at the nostrils. If you want to make your nose visually longer, draw lines starting from the eyebrows.

Step 3. Draw the cheekbones. To do this, you need to darken the area under the cheekbone with a corrector and lighten the cheekbone itself. First, let's determine where exactly we will draw the cheekbone. Place the brush (or finger) in the direction from the ear to the corner of the lips and find the hollow under the cheekbone. This is where it will need to be darkened.

We draw the cheekbone with a dark corrector, slightly retreating from the ear, and finish drawing it before reaching the corner of the lips.

Step 4. Darken the forehead. This step is for those who have a high forehead and who are not comfortable with this feature. The top of the forehead along the hairline and the area on the sides of the forehead should be darkened.

Step 5. Slightly darken the areas near the upper eyelid.

Step 6. Apply a light corrector: highlight the middle of the nose (between the dark lines), the central part of the forehead and the corners under the eyes, the cheekbone (the part above the dark line you drew earlier), the area above the upper lip, the areas in the corners of the lips.

Step 7. The last step, but not least, is shading. You need to shade the dark and light contours you drew very carefully so that there are no clear boundaries between them. To blend, you can use a brush or beauty blender. Start shading with light areas and end with dark ones. Don’t forget to blend well around the jawline, neck, ears, and don’t leave noticeable ugly borders there.

Please note that you do this step if the facial correction was performed with cream textures. If you made corrections with dry textures, then you shaded them immediately during application with a brush.

Contouring step by step photo

I suggest you look good video, where makeup artist Linda Halberg does contouring step by step (video with translation). Linda does contouring with dry concealers and explains each makeup step in detail. Its correction is quite unobtrusive and is suitable even for everyday makeup. Please note that Linda does basic contouring that is suitable for oval faces.

For comparison, a video lesson on contouring, where a girl makes correction with creamy textures. Even in the video it is noticeable that such contouring will look sharper and more contrasting.

Features of contouring depending on face shape

Now let's move on to the features of contouring depending on the shape of the face. To put it very briefly, the essence of face shape correction is as follows: an oval face shape is taken as the ideal, and all owners of other shapes (square, circle, etc.) with the help of cosmetics strive to bring their face precisely to an oval shape. Let's look at how to do this in more detail using photos and videos as examples.

Square face correction

When contouring square face The highlighted areas remain the same as for an oval face, and the jaw is added to the shaded areas. Detailed video a tutorial on contouring a square shape was offered by a Sephora makeup artist.

Contouring a round face

I suggest watching a video lesson where a girl corrects round face and makes him visually thinner. Please note that a round face shape is found not only in fat girls, face shape does not depend on fullness at all, but this video simply combines contouring techniques for a round face and for a full face. The girl draws attention to the fact that for a round face shape, the highlighted areas should not be too large, and the triangular area under the eyes should not be very elongated. But the darkened areas will be larger. The girl actively darkens her temples and the side of her forehead, the areas under her cheekbones, as well as her double chin.

Contouring a rectangular face

Contouring a triangular face

Contouring the face in the shape of a heart or this shape can also be called triangular. The features of contouring here are due to the fact that the lower part of the face is significantly narrower than the upper.

Face contouring is an impressive makeup technique through which makeup artists help achieve perfect shape faces. Facial contouring, also called sculpting or, is the latest trend makeup at home. Now, when you look at the perfect movie stars, know that you can achieve the same result yourself. To do this, you just need to determine your face shape and use our guide.

It is with the help of contouring that you can achieve your ideal face shape. Further in our article we will tell you how to correctly apply contour to your face. This is the ultimate interactive guide of its kind.

Contouring the face is achieved using an angled brush, bronzer, highlighter and blush. First, you need to decide what type of face shape you have.

If you have a heart-shaped face, then this may characterize you as a very caring and expressive person who sees the world differently. Such a person is able to give his last shirt to someone in need, can patiently listen to his neighbor and is sensitive to others. And it is not surprising that this face shape resembles the shape of a heart. Famous celebrities with heart-shaped faces include Jennifer Love Hewitt, Reese Witherspoon and Carey Mulligan.

Bronzer. A heart-shaped face has prominent cheeks, so don't over-extend the angle of your cheeks to prevent your face from appearing too pointed. Start drawing the cheek line from about the middle of the ear. The "less is more" rule applies when you're highlighting the cheeks on a heart-shaped face.

Since with a heart-shaped face, the upper part of the face looks larger than the chin, it is worth evening out the overall appearance of the face by darkening the temples with bronzer. Maintain balance between your temples and your cheekbones.

Avoid adding any dark contour lines on the lower jaw. A heart-shaped face shape is already angular, so any dark outline will only accentuate the shape of the angle and shift the balance of the face.

Lengthen your nose by also applying a darker bronzer to the sides to soften the angular shape and create a sophisticated look. appearance your image. By darkening a small area under the tip of the nose, you will give it a more lifted shape. It all depends on how much you want to change your original nose shape.

Highlighter highlight the line of the nose, the area under the eyes, the chin. And on the forehead it should be used with caution so as not to weigh down the upper part of the face.

Blush Apply over the line of bronzer on the cheeks, maintaining elongated lines sloping towards the chin. This will add symmetry and maintain the natural curves of the face.

If you have a square face shape, then this indicates that you are a doer and are ready to do anything to get maximum pleasure from life. The strong lines of your face give you a confident, piercing look, but at the same time you can be overly naive. This is the type of woman who wears red lipstick, hot pink nails and can have a beer with the guys during the game. This set of qualities is one of a kind, which defines many aspects of femininity in you. Famous people with a square face shape are Olivia Wilde and Demi Moore.

Bronzer. The main goal of contouring an angular face is to soften the jawline while darkening harder lines. This way you can bring unwanted angularities into the shadows, and bring other parts of the face to the forefront, highlighting them with a highlighter.

Apply the darkest color at the temples and along the hairline on the forehead. This will soften square shape your face and will give it a more rounded appearance, focusing on the middle of the forehead. Align your nose, outlining it more dark color to lengthen it. However, do not darken the chin, otherwise the face will look unnaturally pointed. On the cheekbones, make short, light lines, starting from the point in the middle of the ear.

Highlighter highlight the forehead, under-eye areas and chin. This will make your look visually clearer. It is worth considering that for a square face shape, a minimal amount of backlight is used. Therefore, highlighting areas of the face should be done with extreme caution in order to maintain naturalness.

Blush Apply in a rounded shape from the edge of the cheekbone and down to the intersection with the center point of the eye. This rounded blush will add a new round line to your face to soften a square face shape and maintain balance.

If you have an oval face shape, then this means that you are rare. Since an oval face is considered stylistically universal. People with this face shape combine courage and calmness in their facial expressions, which inspire trust and affection in other people. At the same time, when your face tells everyone about your loyalty, you are an incredibly mischievous person who loves to have fun and play pranks, such as playing hide and seek in a department store. People with an oval face shape are always young at heart. Famous celebrities with oval faces include Jessica Alba, Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez.

Bronzer. Since your face already has one of the most balanced shapes, contouring should focus more on highlighting and diminishing individual features rather than the overall shape. People with oval face shapes tend to have more prominent noses. Thus, contouring the face with more emphasis on the sides of the nose than on the cheeks will compensate for these functions. To make your nose look shorter, highlight only half of the bridge of your nose.

When darkening the cheekbones, lengthening the face should be avoided. Try to draw your line starting just above the corners of the mouth, making a triangle. This way you will visually separate your face and avoid the “horse” effect.

Highlighter. Applying a line of highlighter above your lip and on your chin will widen your face to give it a more symmetrical shape. Be sparing with highlighting the upper lip, but outline the chin area with flat white shading to maximize shape. Highlighting your forehead will help you balance your chin, just try to avoid excess shine on it.

Blush Apply with short and sharp movements, starting from the sides of the nose to the sides to the top of the ear. This blush will look very natural.

If you have a triangular face shape, then this indicates that you are an incredibly intuitive person. Such people are very sensitive and know how to quickly find solutions. They are strong, independent and unique. Famous celebrities with triangular-shaped faces include Ashley Greene, Scarlett Johansson and Halle Berry.

Bronzer. Since the chin is the narrowest part of the face with this shape, it is necessary to apply as much dark shading here as possible so that the chin blends into the overall background of the face. It should be balanced with other parts of the face.

Darken the outline of the hairline to reduce the width of the forehead and achieve greater symmetry. All lines of bronzer should be soft to maintain balance on the face. Also, don't highlight your eyes too much. With a triangular face shape, as a rule, the eyes come to the fore. Let your other features shine through.

Highlighter. Avoid highlighting your nose. Highlight the areas under the eyes and continue this line under the nose. This will shorten it slightly and maintain balance. Highlight the forehead above the eyebrows and chin.

Blush. To give your face beautiful light blush, apply blush in as straight lines as possible to the nose. By using straighter lines of blush, you can add a sense of balance to the face, as long as these lines do not follow your triangle, so as not to overwhelm the face.

If you have an elongated face shape, then this indicates that you take life with ease. You are cheerful and this playful nature attracts other people to you. You illustrate calm even when you don't feel it. Famous celebrities with long faces include Sarah Jessica Parker, Sandra Bullock and Kim Kardashian.

Bronzer. The trick with this face shape is to shorten its appearance. The lower part of the chin should be darkened to reduce its length. Then apply a dark frame along the contour of the hairline from temple to temple. This will widen the face slightly but balance it out.

Highlight your eyes so that they draw all the attention to themselves and draw the gaze away from the chin and forehead. Highlight the cheekbones just a little with horizontal lines. Darken the nose only to half the bridge of the nose so as not to lengthen it.

Highlighter. Try not to overexpose your face. Apply highlighter only to the areas under the eyes, lightly touch the bridge of the nose and the space between the eyebrows. On the chin, carefully stretch a light line under the lip with highlighter to visually widen and shorten the chin. Remember, using too much highlighter will only lengthen your face even more. But the right accents will help balance it out.

Blush. An elongated face shape favors applying blush in wide, straight lines towards the nose. This blush will complement your face shape very beautifully.

If you have a round face shape, then this indicates that you have a certain airiness and charm, and others would really like to know where you get so much energy from. Chubby girls have the ability to catch the gaze of passers-by. Such girls do not stay alone for long. Many people consider it important to get to know you. Famous chubby celebrities include Kirsten Dunst, Diane Argonne and Kate Upton.

Bronzer. Another shape where contouring the face requires using a large amount of bronzer for darkening. This procedure helps to reveal the structure of a soft face more clearly. Darken the sides of your cheeks, creating the effect of narrowing your face shape without affecting your forehead and chin.

Highlighter. Exactly, as if using a ruler, highlight the bridge of the nose, starting from the middle of the forehead, to draw attention to the center of the face. Also highlight the top of your cheeks and make a triangle on your chin. This will lengthen a rounded face and create a soulful, balanced and more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Blush. Do not forget that a round face has the same round cheeks. Therefore, when highlighting them, maintain the angularity of the shape. Here you should use blush very sparingly so as not to overdo it. Highlight your cheeks, just above your cheekbones in a teardrop shape, where the widest part is closest to your nose. However, depending on your personality, you may want to avoid using blush altogether.

Facial contouring is a makeup technique with which makeup artists visually change the shape of the face and its parts. Face contouring is performed in two ways: darkening and highlighting individual areas.

Correct facial contouring corrects imperfections in appearance: a crooked or too large nose, a massive jaw, a low forehead. You can emphasize the “strengths” of the face: highlight the cheekbones, focus on expressive eyes.

Preparing for contouring

The main task of a beginner is to determine his color type in order to select shades of sculpting products.

  • Cold color type– cool shades with gray or pink undertones.
  • Warm color type– shades with yellow or brown undertones.

The best option is a ready-made contouring palette. When you contour your face at home, the palette allows you to avoid mistakes in choosing shades. Within one palette there will be only cold or only warm shades - dark and light.

  1. Correcting the shape of the nose. More often, the lateral edges of the nose are highlighted in a dark color, the wings are darkened, and the strip from the middle of the forehead to the tip of the nose is highlighted. Depending on the manipulation, they may be different.
  2. Highlighting the cheekbones. The dark line of the cheekbone should be directed from the ear to the corner of the mouth. If it is difficult to guess the location of the line, pull in your cheeks, pretending to be thin. Then the hollows on the cheeks will indicate the lines for drawing the cheekbones. The protruding part of the cheekbone needs to be highlighted. You can apply shimmer to the highlighted area to make your face glow.
  3. Shaping the forehead. A high forehead is corrected by darkening the upper part of the forehead near the hairline. If you have a wide forehead, darken the sides above the temples. Highlight the center of the forehead by moving the brush from the bridge of the nose up and slightly to the sides.
  4. Emphasize the eyes. Use a light shade to highlight the raised area under the eyebrow. Highlight a small area under the outer corner of the eye. Those with naturally large eyes can highlight the inner corner of the eye. These manipulations will make your look fresh and open.
  5. Working with the area around the mouth. Correcting the shape of the lips is the task of pencil and lipstick, but contouring products will also make a contribution. Lighten the corners of your lips a little and the “Cupid’s hole” - the area above the center of the upper lip. Apply a dark shade under the center of your lower lip to make your lips look fuller. This is where the natural shadow of the lips is located.

  • Square and rectangular - strongly protruding angles of the lower jaw, wide chin.
  • Triangular - wide forehead, narrow chin and narrow jaw.

Oval face

Those with an oval face often have a long nose. To make your nose appear shorter, lower the light stripe from the bridge of the nose not to the tip, but to the middle of the nose. Make sure that after contouring your face does not appear longer.

Start your cheekbone line not from the corners of your mouth, but a little higher. Highlight your chin with a light shade. This will slightly widen the lower part of the face, which is only beneficial for the oval.

Round face

Chubby girls should not just emphasize their cheekbones, but darken the entire area under the cheekbone line - this technique will narrow the lower part of the face. Using a light tone, draw an inverted triangle on the chin. Highlight the middle of the nose, extending the line to the middle of the forehead. Highlight the prominent area of your cheekbones. If your face is round but thin, apply blush just below the highlighted cheekbone area.

Triangular face

Apply a dark shade to the center of a sharp chin to smooth out the angularity. Highlight the corners of the lower jaw in a light tone. The sides of the forehead and the area along the hairline should be darkened to visually narrow the upper part of the face. Don't highlight your eyes and nose. Highlight the area between them - under the eyes and diagonally from the outer corners of the eyes to the cupid's moon.

Square face

Intensively darken the protruding corners of the lower jaw and the sides of the forehead. Apply a dark tone along the hairline at the top of the forehead and temples. Draw a line under the cheekbone in a dark tone from the ear to an imaginary vertical line passing through the center of the eye. Try to draw this line higher.

Lighten the forehead, chin and bridge of the nose a little. If you have a long and angular rectangular face, apply more of the darker shade to the top of your forehead.

Contouring your face can seem like a daunting task for beginners. Over time, you will learn your appearance and find custom contouring techniques for your face.

Common mistakes when contouring

  • Using dark tones on the protruding parts of the face - the falling areas are covered with a dark tone, and the protruding areas are highlighted.
  • Poor shading - do not allow visible boundaries between shades to avoid multi-colored spots.
  • Blending creamy products using rubbing movements - you should make patting, pressing, driving movements with a sponge or synthetic brush.
  • Using blush as part of contouring - blush has a different task, it refreshes the face and neutralizes pallor.
  • Using contouring techniques for a different face shape - the effect of such sculpting is questionable - you will emphasize flaws.
  • Using cosmetic products with shimmer – matte textures are suitable for sculpting. use minimally on the most prominent points of the cheekbones.
  • Incorrect processing of the nose - the dark lines on the sides of the nose should not diverge downward; bring them forward to the tip of the nose, but not along the wings.
  • Wrong choice of shades - those with a cold color type of appearance need cool shades, and girls whose skin has a warm undertone need warm shades.

Remember that creamy contouring products are more difficult to use. They are suitable for evening makeup or photography. For daytime makeup, use powder products.
