A man's wardrobe is not as diverse as a woman's, but surely everyone has irreplaceable thing, which is worthy of hanging on a trempel. This is about men's suit, in particular – about the jacket. This type of clothing - indispensable attribute in the appearance of the strong half of humanity, since sometimes you need to match business style and the requirements of elegance. Business meetings, conferences, trips to the museum, theater and restaurant oblige a man to look exactly this way. Therefore, when choosing a jacket in a store, you need to be attentive to the properties and characteristics of the material from which it is made. Not just a man, but not every woman knows how to properly care for a jacket.

It is clear that it absolutely cannot be washed automatically or manually. Naturally, soaking is prohibited. The reason for such whimsicality is the strict cut of jackets, the presence of lining and sewing material. Usually these are thick or medium-density fabrics. The situation is aggravated by adhesive cushioning layers of material used to repeat or alternate cut elements. It is thanks to this “device” that the product is able to keep its shape throughout its entire service life. When sewing a jacket, more than one type of adhesive backing is often used. One, more compact in structure, is intended for fixing the shelves and the inside of the collar. The other is thinner and softer, sewn to the upper collar. Moreover, it is an element of facing the neck and back darts. That is why the question arises about how to clean a jacket at home?

How to clean a suit jacket without dry cleaning?

Before answering this question and starting to clean your jacket with the first available means, it is important to stop and evaluate the degree of contamination, its type, and how old it is. If a stain, say from wine, was printed more than three months ago, then it is better not to risk it and go to the dry cleaner. When you see that the dirt is not old or there are dusty stains, then the problem of cleanliness can be solved with accessible, simple means. Most jackets are made from suit materials that combine elastane, polyester, and viscose fibers. You can clean the material of such a jacket using ammonia, medical alcohol, water. Preparation: dilute all parts of the solution in a proportion of 200 ml. water, 5 ml. one and 5 ml. other alcohol.

  1. Take plastic bottle with sprayer. Pour the resulting mixture into the container and shake well.
  2. The jacket should be laid out on a clean, cotton cloth.
  3. Use a spray bottle to distribute the solution evenly over the fabric.
  4. Quickly, using a soft-bristled brush, work over the entire surface of the product.
  5. Hang the jacket on the hanger to dry.

You can process the item in another way. Here, as in the first recipe, you will need ammonia. Only the processing technology varies slightly. Need to cook liquid composition. A teaspoon of ammonia is used for 0.5 liters of water. Blot the soft, non-fading material and work only on the dirty areas of the jacket. After doing this, rinse the rag and wipe it again, now the entire surface of the jacket. Dry material completes the care. Slightly damp material is wiped with it. Ammonia can give things a specific smell. You can solve this problem by drying your jacket in the fresh air.

Suede items are easier to clean. They have a fleecy surface, from which it is not so difficult to remove small dirt and dust. Things take a different turn if the jacket gets very dirty. There is no point in doing it on your own, so you need to trust the professionals.
Sometimes, going to dry cleaning becomes impossible due to lack of time and money. Basic care options will come to the rescue. Before work, you need to understand that fabric such as suede does not like excessive moisture, especially washing, automatic drying, and spinning. Neglecting this rule means that you end up with a “planted” jacket.

Not every home has such a device as a steamer, as people are accustomed to more traditional ironing devices. We are talking about an iron, but in this case it is not an assistant. Algorithm for cleaning a suede jacket with a steamer:

  1. Straighten the item on the trempel from the “face”.
  2. Turn on the steamer and place it in the plane of the jacket, 15 cm from the surface.
  3. Moisten the suede on all sides of the jacket with the device.
  4. Without waiting for the material to dry, work the item with a rubber brush and leave to dry.

A way to remove dust, stains, small specks
– use a hand-held steam generator in tandem with a rubber brush.

Due to its absence, the steamer can be replaced with any source of hot air. This can be a kettle or an ordinary saucepan filled with boiling water. Hang the jacket over a container of boiling water, about half a meter from the surface. It is necessary to ensure that the jacket is slowly moistened in pairs. Next, everything is as in the previous recommendation: follow the procedure for cleaning the item with a soft brush and leave to dry.

How to clean a suede jacket collar?

Suede, due to its fleecy structure, is known for its main disadvantage of quickly attracting dust particles and minor debris. As already mentioned, it is better to clean suede textiles with a rubberized brush. It is not recommended to use regular fiber - this can lead to damage to the fiber and the formation of characteristic “bald patches”. This may cause damage to the collar where it bends along the neckline.

You can remove dirt from the collar of a suede jacket by using special products from the store. Stain removers are produced in the form of sprays, dry compositions for dilution and subsequent spraying on problem areas. You need to use them without ignoring the manufacturer's recommendations. The sequence is as follows: the pile on the suede collar is carefully lifted with a brush, then a spray is applied and all “dirty” defects are removed. The rubber brush can be replaced with a crust of dry bread or an eraser.

An equally well-known way to clean suede is to use steam, the source of which will be the spout of a kettle with boiling water. To get rid of stains using the presented method, you need to turn the collar of the jacket inside out, successively pass a stream of scorching air along the bend, without disturbing the pile. After a minute, you need to take a rubber brush and clean out small stains. If, in addition to small flaws, fatty formations are located on the collar, take ammonia, about 80 ml., and 250 ml. water. Combine the elements of the solution and, after moistening a sponge in it, carefully remove the stains.

Such a recipe has been found, and it is very simple, since the vegetable is available in every home. The cleaning sequence is as follows: the potatoes are washed, removed from the skin, and cut into two parts. A cut of one half is used to wipe away dirty areas. A sponge soaked in water removes starch from the material. The method is very simple and safe. The main thing is that potatoes are loyal to fabric, so you don’t have to be afraid of an antipathetic smell after processing the fabric (as can be the case with ammonia) or white stains from starch.

A jacket is a classic wardrobe item that today is commonly worn not only with formal trousers or skirts. With the right combination, it can perfectly complement a business, casual, as well as evening look. Unfortunately, keeping it clean on your own is not easy, because regular washing can lead to deformation of the product. And constantly resorting to dry cleaning services is expensive. Let's look at how to clean a jacket at home without washing so that its appearance does not deteriorate.

Gentle cleaning of a jacket at home can be done in two ways: dry and wet. The first is suitable for removing dust particles, threads, lint and other small debris from the product. It is enough to go over the jacket fabric with a soft brush or a special roller with an adhesive surface.

Dry cleaning is advisable in cases where the jacket is minimally soiled or is made of a very “capricious” material. In case of heavy contamination, it is necessary wet processing. First you need to clean those parts that are most greasy or “decorated” with stains, and then refresh the entire fabric.

Important: Having chosen a cleaning agent, you should be sure to test its effect on textiles on an inconspicuous area or a separate piece.

Cleaning individual elements

If you decide to clean your jacket without dry cleaning, you must first carefully examine it in daylight. Typically, the areas that get dirty the most are the collar, elbows and cuffs.

Collar

Let's look at how to clean a jacket collar at home. The easiest way to freshen a not very greasy collar is to use a soap solution. Algorithm of actions:

  1. Dissolve three large spoons of liquid soap in 0.5 liters of warm water.
  2. Using a brush and solution, treat the fabric without allowing it to become completely wet.

If the element is heavily soiled, it is better to use other methods. For example, you can wipe the problem area with a sponge or cotton pad soaked in:

  • vodka;
  • a solution of 6 large spoons of ammonia and 1 small spoon of salt;
  • a mixture of water and ammonia in a ratio of 3:1.

Another interesting method of getting rid of greasy shine is treating the fabric with raw potatoes. One tuber should be divided in half and rub the cut on the collar of the jacket.

Regardless of the cleaning method, at the end the material must be treated with a sponge or brush and clean water. To make the collar dry faster, it is recommended to iron it through several layers of gauze.

Elbows and cuffs

When solving the problem of how to clean a jacket at home, you need to pay attention not only to the collar, but also to the fabric on the elbows and cuffs. To refresh these areas, you can use one of the previously described methods.

In addition, there are several more recipes for processing solutions:

  • water and vinegar in equal parts;
  • vinegar, heated in a water bath until warm;
  • 200 ml of water and 1 teaspoon each of ammonia and alcohol (96%).

Cleaning steps:

  1. Moisten the sponge in one of the solutions.
  2. Wipe off dirt.
  3. Treat the fabric with clean water.
  4. Iron through cheesecloth.

If these remedies do not help clean your elbows and cuffs, you can resort to a more complex scheme:

  1. Apply purified gasoline to problem areas.
  2. Rub the top of the fabric with a brush and ammonia.
  3. Rinse with water.
  4. Dry with an iron.

Tip: When working with substances that have a strong odor, open windows. After cleaning, the jacket should be hung to dry in the fresh air, but not in direct sunlight.

Getting rid of sweat odor

Another common problem is how to clean a jacket from sweat, which is the source unpleasant odor. The tissue in the armpit area should be treated with a sponge soaked in a disinfectant.

  • vodka and ammonia in a ratio of 50/50;
  • denatured alcohol, ammonia and water in a ratio of 1:1:4;
  • ammonia, water and salt in equal parts (at the end, the fabric must be rinsed with water so that there are no white stains left);
  • hydrogen peroxide (suitable only for light-colored fabrics, applied to an area moistened with water).

In cases where you need to quickly remove the smell of sweat, you can use this method: moisten the fabric in the armpit area with water and sprinkle with a crushed tablet of acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin). Another option is to treat problem areas on the jacket with a steam cleaner or steam iron.

General jacket cleaning

Let's figure out how to clean a jacket step by step at home without washing. Main stages:

  1. Place the product on a flat surface (floor, table) covered with a light cloth.
  2. Clean it with a brush or roller with adhesive tape to remove small particles of debris. Shake it out.
  3. Treat contaminated areas using one of the methods described above. The same solutions are suitable for removing stains. If marks cannot be removed, you should use an industrial stain remover suitable for the type of fabric.
  4. Prepare a soap solution from liquid soap and warm water.
  5. Dampen the brush in it and clean the entire product.
  6. Go over it again with a brush, rinsed in clean water.
  7. Dry areas that are very wet with a towel.
  8. Hang the jacket to dry in a ventilated area.

Features of processing different types of fabric

Leather

Leather products cannot be washed. Stains on the surface of the jacket can be treated with a solution of ammonia, liquid soap and water, combined in equal parts. You should moisten a sponge in it, wipe off the dirt, remove any remaining product with a cotton pad and dry with a napkin.

Processing stages:

  1. Hang the jacket on hangers.
  2. Clean with a special brush with rubber bristles.
  3. If there are stains, remove them with a sponge and ammonia or a solution of milk (200 ml) and soda (1 small spoon).
  4. Treat the fabric with a steamer.

Heavily soiled items can be cleaned with suede shoe shampoo. You should prepare a solution from it and brush it over the fabric.

Wool

Woolen items are difficult to clean on your own. They should not be soaked in hot water or treated with aggressive substances. For general cleaning of the jacket, a slightly warm soapy solution is suitable. Stains and greasy areas can be removed with salt, potatoes or vinegar.

The jacket fabric must not be rubbed or wrinkled too much. Brushes and sponges should be soft enough. In addition, you can use it to refresh the product.
