If stale clothes are put away in the closet, over the summer they will gain bad smell, which will saturate other things, and moths will find your clothes “by smell.” How to store your fur coats in the summer - “City News” will tell you

We store at home

Fur outerwear - fur coats, hats, collars - requires special care. These items are not bought for the season, are carefully selected and are quite expensive. Therefore, with the arrival of spring, you need to responsibly approach the process of storing fur products during the summer.

Fur products require special attention. To prevent a fur coat from losing its appearance and deteriorating, certain “ climatic conditions" The optimal solution is to store fur products in special fur refrigerators. You can install such a refrigerator at home or use the services of specialized companies. In a fur coat refrigerator, the fur is protected from tarnishing, drying out and moths. Are being created ideal conditions storage The temperature in the refrigerator is 4-7 degrees. In addition, companies that accept furs for storage offer insurance in case of fur damage, according to the website ikirov.ru.

Before storing a fur coat, it should be thoroughly dried by carefully hanging the product on a hanger. It should be remembered that fur should not be dried in the sun. Also, do not dry your fur coat near a hot radiator. After improper drying, the fur will lose its elasticity, shine and the product will simply lose its presentable appearance

Fur coats, hats and collars must be put away in a separate closet for the warm period. Before this, the products must be carefully prepared.

Under no circumstances should you roll up a fur coat, put it in a plastic bag and put it away in the folded mezzanine. In this case, next winter the fur coat will have to be sent for restoration, which will require considerable financial costs. And the appearance of the product will certainly change, not for the better.

In the first stage, it is necessary to carefully examine the fur coat: whether there are any stains, accumulated dust, or rolled areas of fur on it. The bottom edge of the product is especially susceptible to contamination. If there is one, you need to resort to dry cleaning services or clean the fur yourself.

Professional fur dry cleaning is definitely better than home remedies. But the choice of dry cleaning must be taken seriously. Try to use the services of trusted specialists, because a poor-quality approach can hopelessly damage the fur.

Spacious house for fur coats

It is necessary to dry fur products after processing and cleaning in a free and ventilated room at a temperature not exceeding +10 degrees and in a hanging position. Try to stay away from the battery. Don't rush to dry your fur coat quickly. It is especially not recommended to hang the product in the sun, even when turned inside out. The fur will lose its brightness, become stiff and brittle and begin to fall out.

The ideal option for storing a fur coat is a bag made of natural fiber. You can purchase it at a hardware store or sew it yourself. A regular sheet or duvet cover will do for this. Under no circumstances should you pack a fur coat or any other fur product in plastic. Sooner or later, moisture will accumulate there, which harms the fur. There are special zippered storage cases outerwear. The material from which the covers are made is breathable. Ventilation is also provided. Dark-colored covers will better preserve the shade and shine of the product.

If you decide to store a fur coat in a closet, then you need to shake it, check the pockets, and fasten all the buttons. Comb the matted areas of fur with a sparse comb, starting from the ends of the pile. The fur coat should hang on separate hangers. The size of the hanger should correspond to the size of the fur coat. If they are too wide, they will cause deformation; if they are too narrow, the sleeves will sag.

When checking winter clothes, you should pay attention to collars, sleeve edges and pockets - these are the parts of clothing that get dirty the most

There should be enough space in the closet. Clothing should not be too close to each other, otherwise the fur will wrinkle. Several times during the summer, the fur coat must be taken out of the closet so that the fur can be ventilated and “rested.”

Products made from light or white fur require special conditions. To prevent the fur from turning yellow, you need to wrap the product in gauze soaked in blue. An alternative option is special blue-colored covers.

Main enemy

The main enemy of a fur coat is moths. A fur coat becomes a victim of this insect when it is stored dirty, uncleaned, and untreated. Moths are lovers of dust that accumulates in natural fibers or lint. Thus, in order to avoid damage to fur, it is necessary to take into account all recommendations for cleaning fur products. No moth repellents, covers, or temperature will save a fur coat if it is dirty. You should keep your fur coat clean even during wear. Do not allow the product to be near dirty clothing.

After the fur coat is put in order and packed in a case, use moth repellents. There is a huge variety of such products in hardware stores. Various records, bags, powders, aromatic figures and pendants, hangers, sprays.

The most accessible and popular remedy is naphthalene. But several years ago, this substance was banned from being used as a moth repellent, since it contains carcinogens that are dangerous to human health.

Modern means There are two types of moth repellents: contact and fumigation. Contact ones are applied directly to the product. Fumigation agents operate on the basis of gradual evaporation and repellence.

It is better if the anti-moth is placed in the internal and external pockets of the product, in the collar area, advises the portal rematelier.ru. To prevent the product from acquiring the smell of insect repellent, you can put a sachet - a bag with scented filling - in the case. There are also folk remedies: soap, tobacco, lavender, orange peels. Sew lavender or tobacco into a fabric bag and hang it on a hanger with the product.

It turns out that in order for a fur coat to have a good summer, it, firstly, must be clean. Secondly, the place where it is stored should be dry and spacious, and special means will not allow moths to settle in a fur product.

Of course, there is nothing overly complicated in caring for a fur coat, but it is better if you do not experiment and entrust your beauty to dry cleaning professionals.

Today we will tell you how to properly care for fur products.

Regular care

If, after prolonged wear, the fibers have become matted, lumps and balls have appeared, carefully comb these areas with a comb with long, sharp and sparse teeth.

If the fur coat is very dusty, lay it fur side down on a wet sheet and beat it vigorously.

Do not rush to hang your fur coat on the balcony - under the influence of the sun, dark fur fades, and light fur turns yellow. At high temperatures and low humidity, the fur dries out, deteriorates, and loses elasticity.

If the fur core has become coarsened (this is why caps and hats lose their shape, and coat fronts warp and become shorter), you can restore its elasticity. Moisten the surface with a solution of vinegar essence and table salt (2 tablespoons of essence and 3 teaspoons of salt per 1 liter of water). Knead and gently stretch in different directions. Repeat this procedure 2-3 times with intervals of 2-3 hours. Lubricate the dried product with fat emulsion (dissolve 100 g of soap in 1 liter of warm water, add 100 g castor oil and 15–20 drops of ammonia).

Remove grease stains from the cuffs and collar of a fur coat by wiping the fur with a cloth soaked in gasoline. If the fur is fluffy - along the pile, if smooth - against the pile. Fat can be removed with a mixture: 1 teaspoon of ammonia and 3 teaspoons of salt per 0.5 liter of water. After treating the fur with gasoline, wipe it several times with a swab dipped in clean water and wrung out. Do not let the base of the fur get wet.

White items can be cleaned with starch. After this, they need to be shaken out and combed. Starch will give whiteness to the sheepskin: sprinkle it with potato flour and generously spray it with a warm, universal solution from a spray bottle. washing powder. Spread the doughy mass with your hands, and when it dries, remove it with a brush. The cleaned product is dried, then the fur is thoroughly combed.

Yellowed gray astrakhan can be lightened using a 3-5% solution of hydrogen peroxide (1 teaspoon per glass of water) with the addition of a few drops of ammonia. Colored astrakhan fur and white hare fur are cleaned with oatmeal or rye flour.

Products made from beaver, otter, and mole fur are cleaned with dry hot sand. Lay it fur side up on the table, sprinkle with sand and wipe with your palm. Shake off dirty sand and add new sand. Do this until the product is completely clean.

Products made from goat fur are washed with cold soapy water, rinsed and dried. If natural fur is wrinkled, wipe it with a damp sponge so that the fibers get wet, then comb in the direction of the pile, dry and beat out.

Fur items should be stored in a cool place in dark covers. It is not recommended to hang one on top of the other, or to place fur hats one on top of the other. Fur clothes should hang freely in the closet so that the pile does not wrinkle. Do not cover it with mothballs and do not hide it in a chest or sofa.

Daily care

Slush, sleet and salt are the worst enemies of skin and fur. When returning even from a short trip down the street, do not rush to put your fur coat in the closet, but carefully look at what happened to it. Let the stuck wet dirt dry, then carefully brush it off (there is a special “comb” for this - a fur comb, sold in any pet store). A fur coat that has been exposed to rain is dried in an open space (wet skin in a closet will definitely “shrink”), at room temperature and away from heating appliances. You can’t dry your fur with a hot hairdryer - animals don’t do this in nature. The dried fur is lightly shaken so that all the hairs fluff up and fall into place. Once every 2 weeks you need to check the sleeves, collar and hem, where greasy dirt appears more quickly. These places are gently wiped (like cats wash themselves) with a soft sponge soaked in vodka.

On the street, a fur coat should also be protected in every possible way. Especially a lot of troubles befall the hem. He must be lifted on stairs when getting into a car or other vehicle. You can’t stand near the exhaust pipe: in a few seconds the skin welds, shrinks and begins to break.

Fur stained with wine, coffee or sauces should be dry cleaned. Far from civilization, vodka will help, degreasing the surface. There are also old cleaning methods: wipe dirty short-pile fur with hot mashed potatoes, then shake thoroughly. Fur with long pile was cleaned with a mixture of talc and kerosene. Expensive furs were washed with cold water, dried and combed with an infrequent comb. We refreshed our fur coats with dry bran heated in the oven: first we rubbed it in, then shook it out.

Useful tips

Even worse is a fur coat that is not worn: it ages 2 times faster. If there are a lot of fur coats or the winter is warm, she is walked outside like a pet, but once a month for an hour. The best weather is dry, bitter frost with heavy snowfall. After the walk, the fur coat is dried, shaken and put away until next time. In winter, you can hang your fur coat on hangers on the balcony (not in summer and not in the sun), and if there are no crows nearby.

Fur products are afraid of moisture - it is undesirable to walk in them in the rain and sleet. If this does happen, the fur coat should be shaken and dried on hangers at room temperature. Do not dry fur items near heating appliances.

Do not hang dyed fur in a closet next to undyed fur or against a whitewashed wall (whitewashing spoils the fur).

Old fur will shine if you moisten it with glycerin or vinegar, and then, without allowing it to dry, wipe it with a rag soaked in alcohol.

Before storing the fur, it must be dried and cleaned of dust and dirt. After this, carefully knock it out with a thin rod, but so as not to damage the hair.

The optimal storage temperature for fur products is from +5 to –20C (in pawnshops, fur coats are stored in the refrigerator). In a city apartment, it is useful to ventilate fur products in the open air on clear frosty days. If the item is being put away for long-term storage, put moth repellent in the closet; if you don’t have it, dry geranium, lavender, wormwood or scented soap. When storing fur hats, wrap them in paper and place them in a box with a tight-fitting lid. Place an anti-moth remedy in a bag at the bottom.
