For a child from 3 to 5 years old, you can create the image of a teddy bear by sewing a jumpsuit made of light fur Brown or plush, velor, etc.

The front of the suit is fastened with a zipper, and it is better to make the sleeves and the bottom of the pants with an elastic band.
The hood is sewn separately, following the pattern of a children's cap, and round ears are sewn onto the top of the head. The inside of the ears and paws (if present) can be made of lighter fleece or plush.
To create the image of a “formidable” bear, you can sew “claws” made of leather or a substitute into the paws.
Model: “troika” for a bear cub
Can be built DIY bear costume consisting of three components: a hat, shorts and a vest or jacket. This version of the suit is cooler and if the room is hot, it is not necessary to use fur - you can sew it from light fabrics: thick satin, light velor or plush, etc.
A head cap can be sewn on the basis of any headdress: a cap, a thick knitted hat, a plain “budenovka”, etc., just attach round ears.
Shorts or trousers plus a brown vest or jacket can be purchased ready-made or sewn yourself, using it as a template for a pattern ready-made clothes. Sew a “tail” on the back of the shorts: this detail will not hang sadly if you put some cotton wool in the middle.
To make the bear cub's face more believable, you can create DIY bear costume using the following pattern:
The “eyes” for this mask can be borrowed from any toy by carefully detaching them (so that you can later return them) and attaching them to the mask with glue.

The bear costume is one of the most popular among New Year's carnival outfits. Most often found on sale are dark standard versions of brown or white flowers. If you want to dress your child in something brighter and more original, pick up scissors and a needle and start sewing yourself. We offer two simple ways how to make a bear costume.
How to sew a bear costume from a jacket?
Children's sweatshirts with or without a zipper made of fleece with a hood are very comfortable and cozy. This jacket can be used to make a great suit. This method is suitable for those who want to sew a bear costume with their own hands, but cannot yet make a pattern.
We will need:
- jacket made of fleece or thick footer;
- two pieces of fleece, light and dark brown shades;
- matching threads and a sewing machine.
Now let's look at step-by-step manufacturing.
Baby bear costume made from a soft toy
If there is a large bear in the house that is the size of your child, you can even use that! The bear masquerade costume will turn out to be truly original and you will not see this on anyone else.
- Using a knife, make a cut along the stitch line and pull out all the contents.
- If the paws are sewn separately, they must first be unscrewed and the filling removed. We also rip out the lower part of the body to get holes for the legs.
- Next we sew them to the base. At this stage of sewing a bear costume with your own hands, you can also prepare a place for the zipper.
- The author of the tutorial suggests sewing the zipper along the line so as not to cut the round part in the middle. From the chin to the lower paw we rip the seam.
- The bear's head needs to be filled a little with padding polyester to make it voluminous. We first sew on the fasteners by hand so that the head holds its shape. To do this, you can use these plastic holders for computer wires.
- Now we sew on the lining. Top part is something similar to a hood. You can take any sweater and make a pattern from it. The remaining details of the bear costume pattern can be made with your own hands in the same way: turn the bear inside out and trace it on the fabric.
- It is enough to make the lining only in the area of the bear’s body.
- The lining itself can be sewn on by hand using a hidden seam. To make the costume more believable, you can add a little padding in the front part in the tummy area.
- Next, we sew a snake around the circle so that the suit can be fastened.
- We cut off the excess from the paws, then the child will be able to put on the arms and legs.
- A DIY bear costume will be quite warm and cozy. The child is quite comfortable in it and at any carnival it will definitely not go unnoticed.
You can make other interesting costumes with your own hands, for example,
Top. Shirt-shirt of any bright intense color (red, pink, blue, emerald green, yellow) with polka dots or plain (Fig. 1).
Button fastening at the back, imitation at the front. Along the bottom of the sleeves (you can also go along the bottom of the shirt), along the collar and along the cut of the collar, a colored variegated braid is sewn, harmonizing in color and pattern with the fabric of the shirt. If there is no suitable braid, you can sew 2-3 narrow colored ribbons at a short distance from each other, or sew a narrow braid between two narrow ribbons (convolvulus and another zigzag) or even lay out a pattern of narrow braid. You can also sew not a braid, but a narrow strip (2-3 cm) of bright colorful fabric. Belt - a colored scarf or piece of fabric. At the very ends of the belt, fringe, braid is sewn on, or tassels are made. You can embroider patterns on a sewing machine.
On the hands- black, brown or gray gloves. Pads are put on and sewn on them by hand, giving the paws massiveness (Fig. 2). They are sewn from the same fabric as the hood. If the fabric is thin, then between the glove and the cover there are 2 layers of padding polyester.
Bottom. Pants (Fig. 3) - bloomers, plain or striped (for example, white stripe on a dark blue background). There is elastic at the bottom and top.
On foot. Chunky shoes or boots.
On the head. Half mask with a hood (Fig. 3) from a flannel, faux fur(for example, from an old fur coat) or any brown fabric, preferably with pile. It is good to use knitwear (an old plain sweater or leggings). If the fabric is thin, then the hood going down to the back will need to be duplicated with synthetic padding, batting or thick fabric.
Nose(muzzle) sew from 3 parts (Fig. 4), stuff with synthetic padding or cut foam rubber, slightly gather the edges and sew by hand to the hood. The muzzle can also be made from
A plastic bottle, gluing it using calico and PVA glue to a rigid base.
Ears(Fig. 5) tuck, turn out and sew to the mask. The mouth can be made from red soutache or a narrow ribbon. The tip of the nose is made of black leather (old gloves, bag) or shiny black fabric.
Eyes- a circle of white fabric on which a round dark button is sewn (Fig. 6).
Carnival costumes are a mandatory attribute of most children's parties, but at each of them a child may want to try new image, and this is quite expensive. Therefore, parents try to sew costumes themselves. For example, you can create the image of the owner of the forest - a bear - in several ways, varying in degree of complexity, but each of them perfectly conveys the intended character.
We sew a New Year's bear costume for a boy
If you know how to sew, especially how to work with dense and heavy fabrics, you can start making a bear costume from scratch. But this will take up a lot of free time, which is usually already in short supply, so for those who need an easier way out of the situation, there are several simple express options.
- Firstly, you can always use the things available in the house and start “transforming” them. In particular for New Year's costume A bear will need a loose jacket with a long front zipper, and preferably it should have a hood. Straight wide trousers in brown or white, made of soft material (for example, fleece). The shade of the jacket does not play a special role, since it will be greatly modified. In the store, all you have to do is purchase a sufficient amount of brown or white fleece, find suitable threads and related tools - scissors, soap, pins, etc.
- The cut dimensions of brown or white fleece are calculated in advance: the fabric should be enough to completely cover the original material of the jacket. There is no need to create a preliminary pattern, since you already have a frame, and you just need to “wrap” it with a new layer. The jacket is laid out on the washed and ironed fabric, the front and back are outlined, then the hood, and then attention is paid to the sleeves. All details need to be cut out, not forgetting about the allowance for seams, and carefully sewed on top of the sweater.
- Particular attention to the hood, i.e. the future head of a bear. To decorate it properly, 4 circles with a diameter of 15 cm are cut out of brown fleece. They need to be folded together in pairs with the right sides inward, sewn so that only 2-3 cm of the edges remain intact, and through this hole turn outward. These will be the bear's ears: inside they are filled either with thick padding polyester or with scraps of other fabrics. In the middle on each “ear” you need to place a circle of lighter fleece, 7-9 cm in diameter. After this, the “ears” can be sewn to the hood, with the hole through which they were stuffed facing down. Additionally, from 2 small circles (diameter 6-7 cm) of black color, sewn together and also stuffed with padding polyester, a nose is made. Eyes can be drawn or embroidered with dark threads.
- The last detail of the bear costume is mittens that will imitate its paws. The sewing technology is very simple, and even the pattern is drawn in a matter of minutes. It is enough to simply circle the child’s palm along with his fingers, making a slight increase so that his hand feels free inside the thing. From the same brown fleece, parts are cut out, which are again connected in pairs with right sides, stitched and turned inside out. On the inner sides of each mitten you need to place smaller copies of the same pattern, made in a lighter shade - these will be the “pads” on the paws. And to keep the mittens on children's hands, the edge is bent, turning into a drawstring, and a simple underwear elastic is inserted into it.

If you decide to sew a children's bear costume from scratch, you will need to create a pattern. In fact, there is no single pattern for such a suit, because it can be one-piece or separate, certain details can vary, so choose from the existing assortment what you can make.
The general components of the bear image are a loose top and bottom, soft paw-slippers, mittens, round ears that can “sit” on a cap or on a headband. Additional details like ears and mittens were discussed above, and now we need to pay attention to the main things: the top and bottom of the costume. These are wide straight pants that can even be combined with slippers, and the same wide jacket, also often sewn with mittens. To complete the look, it is recommended to add a round belly pillow to the jacket to make the bear look well-fed.
The pattern for the top and bottom parts of the suit are standard patterns simple trousers, the legs of which can be gathered at the bottom with elastic, as well as classic pattern sweatshirts with long sleeve and with a zipper. Allowances for fabric shrinkage and seams are determined based on the specific type of material: for a bear costume, it is recommended to choose soft, loose options - for example, fleece, or fabrics that imitate fur. But since in last child It can be hot, it is better to use them on certain areas: the cap, the back, the neck trim.
If you want the suit to be one-piece, be sure to insert hidden zipper. It is unwise to place it in the middle of the “torso”, since often in the abdomen there is an additional bear’s belly, which cannot be divided in half, and the opening of the chest may not be enough for the baby to remove the suit painlessly.
You can add volume to a bear's body not only through a pillow: in a one-piece suit made from trousers and a jacket, a whalebone or other rigid corset-type frame connected in a circle is inserted into the place where they join (often close to the hip bones). But this technology is more suitable for a suit for a boy of 8-10 years old: it will be uncomfortable for a preschooler to move around in such clothes.
An interesting express method for creating a costume polar bear Suitable for parents of children aged 2 years. To bring it to life, you need a large toy polar bear, equal in height to your child. Carefully, several seams are unraveled on the toy: the one that connects the head and body, and the middle or side one. As soon as the bear can be “revealed,” all the stuffing material is removed from it, and the toy is washed by hand.
Since such products are not intended to be worn on the body, care must be taken to ensure that the baby is comfortable in such a suit. Therefore, you will need soft, but not warm (the material of the toy itself is already dense) fabric in such an amount that is enough to create a full-fledged back layer. You don’t have to worry about being particularly careful with cut parts or seams: the main thing is that they do not cause discomfort to the child when they are adjacent to his body.
A zipper must be sewn into the side seam to make the suit easy to put on and take off. The seam that connected the bear's body and head does not connect back. The free edges of the fabric must be processed to prevent them from fraying; a thin elastic band corresponding in length to the circumference of the child’s head is sewn into the edge related to the toy’s head. If necessary, you can make a tightly stuffed bear belly from 2 fleece circles connected into a round pillow with padding polyester inside. This pillow is sewn on the center of the body with front side, the seam is used hidden.
Last quick option children's costume polar bear is no longer focused on remaking old things, but has a simple sewing technology, so any mother can do it. The entire costume will consist of a vest, short pants, a hat and gloves. How to build the last 3 elements was described in detail above. If you do not have the opportunity to make a full-fledged hat, you can get by with simple round ears stuffed with batting and attached to a plastic headband, which must be covered with the appropriate fabric.
The vest is a traditional sleeveless vest: a solid back, separate front halves, fastened with a button or hooks. Here it is already recommended to work with fabrics that imitate fur, since fleece will not be enough, and due to the openness of the suit in the fur “shell”, the baby will not overheat. The vest has only 4 seams: 2 side seams connecting the front halves to the back, and 2 top seams located on the shoulders. The edges of the parts are additionally processed, especially the opening for the hands and the neck. The hooks are sewn opposite each other on the front halves, from the wrong side, so that the fixation is hidden.
